Anyone know why these are breaking?
Designed to fail so you buy more
Any device that has moving parts will wear out at some point. These look like someone has been slapping those pretty good
It’s inexcusable that these smart switches break like this after a few short years, when the traditional switches that they replaced were still undamaged or worn after decades of use. It infuriates me that the $3 switch can last decades but the $35-60 switch breaks after 3-5 years.
New-a few months old. Light normal use. Two possibilities from other sources-
- Wires too tight pushing toggles out
- Box too small-cheaper version Never experienced this before!
Because they are poorly designed. They were designed to be inexpensive to manufacture, rather than designed to be durable.
These have a tiny plastic tip. They snap into place and then pivot on the tip. The tip breaks and you have what’s pictured. See also Nortek, GoControl, Linear, 2Gig…
I wouldn’t mind so much if it were possible to buy and replace the broken paddles. You can get replacement paddles, but the replacements are only available in different colors. They don’t sell white replacements, only brown and off whites, and it really upsets me.
Less than a year old. We used them lightly-normal use. Some of them broke only after a few months. Never seen anything like this!
