Hello
What budget friendly solution would you recommend for someone that wants to store at most 1-2TB of data on a portable device ?
I’m curently using 256Gb USB keys, but it’s getting annoying to swap between them when I need to update the storage or retrieve something.
I went with USB because it was cheaper and less prone to failure by being handled, but I don’t know if it’s the cheapest and most reliable way to store data I want to access semi-regularly.
What would be your advice ?
Thank you
external usb drives
Flash drives kinda suck. Unreliable, bad performance, easy to lose or break. Fine for moving a bit of data between devices but definitely not something I would entrust my data to longterm.
(external) SSDs in the 1TB range are so cheap that it hardly makes sense to recommend anything else. Especially for portable storage.
Seriously now.
Huh? What are you storing? Why does it need to be portable… Why does it have to be small? Your wanting to store couple TB, why would you be using device sized 256GB devices if you need couple TB?
If you gave some details of what exactly your doing - it would be easier for people to suggest a way to accomplish it…
If I wanted smallest form factor to store 2TB of data, I would just get a 2TB ssd… I think buffalo puts out a pretty small one, for around 100 bucks… I think its smaller than 1x0.5x3 inches, And believe its suppose to be some sort of mil standard impact certified or something… One sec, let me look up a link.
here you go https://www.buffalotech.com/products/ssd-put-rugged-and-portable-solid-state-drive-stick
Or you can just get a case for any nvme ssd and use that…
Get an internal 1, 2, or 4tb nvme from a trusted brand (Samsung, WD, or crucial) then get an enclosure (make sure it’s atleast 10gbps) and that in total should be anywhere from $60-$160 with all the sales going on
Is this a joke? Get a portable 2TB HD
