20 now but I’ve been doing it since I was 13, ripping my mom’s DVDs from my mom’s collection. Still have the files : )

I downloaded a virus and it made 60% of my video projects unplayable. I was 10 and had a DV camera + loved Windows Movie Maker. I still remember my computer just going black the second I double clicked that .exe. My uncle had to get it back to life but I never knew it could break the hard drive like that. I still don’t understand that incident, but it was the last time I risked it all for a weird .exe.

      It’s almost always Seagate :p

My first big loss was also a 120GB Seagate drive back in 2004/2005.

Currently, no. I started when I was about 15 and it began with me trying to hoard every power and progressive metal band I could find on Soulseek. On that program, you can browse other user’s share, so I would just go into the metal chatrooms and look through everyone’s folders and searching for the bands on metal-archive.org to find the power metal and progressive metal bands. Also did other genres, but I specifically wanted EVERY power/progressive band I could get.

I usually didn’t have internet a lot of the time so I started downloading music by yt to mp3, at some point I changed all my library to 320kbps and there’s no way for me to stop downloading because I have a lot of music that’s not on spotify and has only low res versions on youtube. On the other side I do backups of my projects and stuff

50 years of collecting music and digitizing photos mainly. But I was also that guy who built a data cable to connect my StarTac to my Palm Pilot for glorious >256k speeds.

Lots of cassette tapes and a VIC20. I was 13 at the time. Does that count as <20?

When i was ~7 years old i’ve started to collect icons from random websites. I remember that i copied the shell32.dll from the windows vista laptop of my uncle in a thumbdrive and later used it in XP. Now i partially conserved this collection.

Started when I was 11 maybe. I guarded my 2GB flash drive with my life. I was ecstatic at getting a 250 GB external hard drive for my birthday a few years later. I recall getting a family computer with the 1TB HDD option and thought “no way we could ever fill that up.”

Still in my 20s, but now I’m running a NAS with 16TB usable space.

I guess I’m somewhat similar in that regard. 2001-ish I thought I would never fill my single 160gb hard drive when I was 13. Between then and probably 2012 I collected things but very casually. Then it took off a bit. Capacity is now in the hundreds of TB. Just realized my flair is a few years old. It’s much higher now.

I just felt a need to download everything I like, even more so after a few times where something I really liked was deleted off the internet and I couldn’t find it anywhere.

Started when I was 12, always fascinated by torrents and how it works. Me and my 120gb HDD that time.
