Hey all. currently running truenas scale and both love and hate it.

if i were to switch, i want to be able to run zfs but i also want a slick webgui.

im looking at free options (sorry unraid) which remind me of truenas, except with the ability to run docker - which i still feel like is truenas’ fatal flaw.

i have thought of a simple ubuntu server with webmin + dockge/portainer, but im like, maybe there is something more put together? im thinking of a webgui more reminiscent of CasaOS. i would even do cockpit if it were a little more robust.

im not even sure if this solution exists - but i would like to know if anyone knows an OS which has a nice webgui and also allows for the management of zfs drives/pools.

thanks all!

My suggestion would be Proxmox. It’s a full VM hypervisor with the ability to manage ZFS out of the box. I recently moved from a truenas VM to managing ZFS on Proxmox directly and the process was nearly painless.

Proxmox is great. It’s Debian based, so you can install Docker directly on it if you want, but I recommend installing a Debian virtual machine and installing Docker there. That way you can manage backups, transfer the whole thing when you upgrade machines, etc.
