    Hello!

Some of those optiplex only have like 2 slots for drives, check out an extension card (PCI-Express) for adding more drives.

Or go with a cheap used Dell or Lenovo tower that has several sata connections (you use one for each drive), find out by checking the technical documentation for the one you might want to buy.

Otherwise, just start out with what you have, you will have plenty of opportunities to learn and check out stuff IMO.

If I understood correctly you have a couple of drives, get an external case for on of them and use it for a backup when you’re experimenting.

  • I admit I skimmed through the technical part of the post, but I have had a similar bottleneck because I didn’t need more and used a 100Mb switch for my NAS.

So copying the rare stuff (I really didn’t use it much) was like that speed.

Maybe it’s not that at all, but if you do scrunch your ethernet through some other old equipment, or your box has only a 100Mb slot, or the old drivers max out at that speed … well it might be that.

    Cheers & good luck!
