Hi. I have an ONT. I’d like to move the ONT from its location to a different part of my home.

I do not have fibre to the new location, only Cat 6. Can I purchase a pair of Fibre to RJ45 converters and still expect the ONT to work on the other end?

I know my ISP does Mac/Serial detection on the ONTs so the ONT must be the one establishing the connection and this data must be unchanged, I’d have thought most F->Eth converters do not establish a connection to the OLT, but simply pass through transparently any data they are converting.

Anybody have any experience here? TIA.

If you WON’T ask the ISP to move the ONT, then CAT6 to the other location is going to be your best solution. If you don’t like this answer, then stop posting asking for them on Reddit.

wat - this makes no sense, so because I want to understand whether it’s theoretically possible to move the ONT via a Cat6 link, and nobody is able to provide me that answer, I should just stop asking the question entirely? Tldr, you think that I should stop asking a genuine question because the amount of folks who can give an actual answer are limited?

      Go figure.
