I have a home server running Plex, blue iris, home assistant and some random docker containers. I also have a NAS that I backup my iPhone photos to. I’d like to remove the NAS to reduce the energy usage. Is there good solution for backing up photos but using the already running server? It’s running windows 11.

u/Stt022, man, I’m sorry for your (almost) loss… (though you have not yet killed the NAS)

For the past 15+ or so years (about… plus minus a year or so), I modified my Home network to have all devices completly off… that was NASes, Switches, PCs, Home Server(s) (had a few at home), home sound system, everything off.

That change + (back then) I swtiched every single light bulb to LEDs…

That translated to almost 70% reduction in my energy comsumption…

Seeing that change on my monthly bill was nice… and has kept every since.

You could look into just shutting the devices down and only turning them on, on a need-to-use basis… you then get to keep your NAS, reduce your energy costs and save some doe.

Let me know what you think (or if there are additional considerations to think about)
