Due to some unfortunate events, a portion of my cat5E cable has been badly melted. It is running from our router to my pc with plenty of slack. I’m unsure what the best course of action to use is. Any recommendations on components to use? the portion of cable that is at risk of burning is unable to be moved as it’s a tripping hazard otherwise so any tips on better protecting it would be nice too.

You don’t mention what kind of cable it is. If it is solid conductor 24 AWG cable it might be worth repairing, but if it is a premade patch cable with smaller stranded conductors (as is typical for that) just chuck it and buy a new one. Most of the connectors and punch-downs you can buy won’t work well with that and finding ones that do may cost you more in time and frustration than a replacement cable does.
