According to multiple speed tests I have done, I am getting around 10mbs of download speed. Yet the internet is supposed to be around 1000mbs.
I have two cables and have tested them both on my PS4 and PC. Both cables give around 10mbs of download speed on both devices. The cables are same brand. Whats crazy is I have around 100 upload while having 10 download.
What is going on?
And what speed when you wire directly into the modem (bypassing the router)?
Please describe in detail, link by link, your connection to the Internet. For example: fibre from ISP outside your house to ONT, ethernet from ONT to port 1 on modem/router [make, model]… and so on until you get to your laptop & operating system.
And any history that might help. Is this a new installation? Has it ever worked? Any recent changes?
if you can please hook up a laptop directly to your ISP Modem/ONT and run a speed test, this sounds like one of your cables are damaged forcing it to negitiate at 100mbps instead of gigabit.
I’ve seen alot Dell and HP laptops that get better speeds on wifi than ethernet because they use modern wifi 6 adapters but 10/100 network ports for some stupid reason
If you are not getting the speed you are paying for from the internet provider it could be something to do with Windows 10 or 11. I was to get over 500mbps but 99% of the time I never came close. The internet provider Spectrum said the line was good. My other pc was getting 570mbps and my cell phone was getting high speed when using the spectrum wifi.
I was getting under 200mbps and sometimes 300mbps on my Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H desktop pc from 2015 but most times in the low 200’s. It was a new install in February 2023. I tried the many suggestions online but the FREE program TCP Optimizer easily fixed the issue.
