hi everyone,
i want to make the switch moving from Google Drive to selfhosted,
and currenly I got a windows server up and running with a big hard drive which I want to make accessible like “Google Drive”,
so on phone by an App,
on Windows like a mounted drive,
etc.
What do you guys use for that usecase?
SMB.
Yeah, this is what I thought OP was already talking about. Just keep it simple and use SMB (as long as it’s properly secured).
OP would then just need some client apps for things like smartphones but essentially every OS supports SMB natively at this point.
The iOS files app, as terrible as it is, supports SMB.
Right! I always forget that too.
Hopefully on mobile we’re using a VPN though. I don’t think SMB on public WiFi would be a great combination.
I’ve heard of nextcloud, haven’t used it myself.
Yeah I’ve also heard of nextcloud being used. Definitely don’t use windows anything.
