I’m currently building my blocklist so hopefully I won’t be seeing this place soon.
So far I’ve got 174 communities on my blocklist, that’s for ignoring the 1M bots coming from alien.top that post all over these.
The whole list doesn’t even fit in a comment, here’s a sneak peak,

Block the repost bots

The problem with this is endeavor is you’ll either need to block the 1.1M of alien.top bots or block the whole community.

Totally agree on #2 though.
But, any actual user posting something would either be lost in the noise of repost bots, or posting in a community blocked by many people.
I don’t see these ever driving engagement.
By all means, br the change, do post content, but you’re probably better off doing so elsewhere, in a community that’s not 99.999% bots already.

If it runs hot but still works, it works.
Unless you get a sketchy NIC, you should be fine with copper for 2m.
For the LAN side, it depends.
If you’re gonna run a new cable through your walls either way, might as well run fiber than copper.

Soft hand-off is like my ex from 20y ago. She’d find the next B guy and connect with them before dropping guy A.

You can probably run some sort of dyndns client on android. I’d think maybe in something like termux.

Otherwise, check out mutual-TLS, also known as client SSL.
We use SSL all the time for servers, but the same can be done for clients.
I run eveything behind an nginx reverse proxy that handles all that with the ssl_client_verify directive beefier proxying the request to the different services.
You generate a cert that’s to be installed on the phone.
On a new connection, the server will challenge the client for its certificate and just drop eveything else.
I’d say it’s as secure as doing VPN with PKI, but without having to keep the vpn running.

A few caveats: not all apps and browsers support mTLS.

Everything you try potentially makes the above more difficult or more expensive or outright impossible, especially if it makes any abnormal noise.

Depends if you can configure the aggregate port in the HG8245Q2.
To avoid needing a second NIC or PC-side aggregation, look for something with a 2.5Gbps LAN port.

I doubt changing the edge router would change much in terms of performance, or are we already taking about wifi too?

I don’t really have a suggestion, but you can always get a PCIe NIC card if you find/have hardware that would work but lacks sufficient GbE ports.
