mostly for fun, cuz i guess for some reason i enjoy having problems, but that leads to it also being for education. i’ve learned a lot maintaining these systems. and it’s just cool, i like being able to say i can and try out different software to see what works. i like the custom approach rather than a one size fits all society

maybe try VSCode? it’s pretty quick with loading files and it’s free

need a lot more info. what devices have you tested on? are they connected to wifi or ethernet? what’s your router? what category cable is connecting your modem and router? (look for “cat” on the cable) how many devices do you have on your network?

generally speaking, wired ethernet to your device will always outperform wifi.

if you’re on a desktop, make sure your computer has a Gb port or higher (don’t ask us, we won’t know, just google your computer, device or network card to find out)

if you’re on wifi, how’s your wifi set up? do you have 5ghz band enabled? is your device connected to that one? (google to find out how)

most of these are leading questions. researching and answering them will help you discover ways to optimize your network.

sounds like you might have a 2 pole system. is there another switch that controls the same light? a switch with 2 screws and ground wouldn’t work for that.

without really knowing what your goal is with a personal router, all i can say is i like TP Link. their AX1800 router has been serving well for 3 years

yup. i’ve heard quite a few reports that wireless is decent, but wired backhaul is way better. only reason this won’t work is if you need to use the ports on R2 to wire anything

if they were wireless all ethernet ports would be available for wiring clients. with wired backhaul, you’d need a switch before or after R2 to take advantage of wired clients and wired backhaul
