Correct, unmanaged Ethernet Switches are plug-n-play.

And you do not need to run Cat6A patch cables, regular Cat6 or even Cat5e cables will be just fine.

If your room is setup as an apartment with its own plumbing/cooking, etc. and it has its own official postal address, then you should be able to sign-up for your own personal Internet service.

Otherwise you and the other renters need to get together and have a discussion with the building owner and ask to have better Internet access setup in the whole building.

And the best way to make this happen, is to have someone come in and run dedicated Ethernet cable drops installed to each individual room.

So if you are able to run a direct wired Ethernet connection to the neighbors primary Wifi Router, then this is possible (and will be the best way; but there are problems with this method).

A wireless/Wifi connection between you and neighbors Internet connection is also possible, but depending on how the wireless connection is done will determine how good the connection will perform.

Yeah the ‘TP-Link TL-WPA8631P’ setup might work for you, unfortunately there is no way to know for sure without trying it.

Just make sure to review the stores return/refund policy for electronics before you buy, so that you won’t have any problem in getting a refund.

So I’m not sure that I have any suggestions regarding your question; I’m simply curious about this 4 port switch that has a USB Wifi adapter.

Some residential Wifi Routers have the ability to isolate each device, but its typically found under the Guest Network access; which you would need to specifically enable.

So it sounds like your Verizon Gateway is slower to boot than your Deco Mesh system, but why the Deco doesn’t try to “ping” the Gateway for updated IP addressing once the Gateway is booted, I’m not sure.

Yeah, it really depends on what they did on the other end of the cables.

Because if they converted all the jacks to Ethernet, then they probably ran all the cables to a backroom/central location and into an Ethernet Switch and this is the reason why your DSL service doesn’t work (because the phone line into the home is not connected).

Besides your DSL service is there another Internet connection in the home?

Or is the DSL service the only Internet connection in the home and it’s for everyone’s use?

Because if the DSL service is for the whole home to use, then you need to move the DSL modem into the location where the Electricians wired all the Ethernet cables.

Without the exact brand names and exact model numbers of these devices it is difficult to know exactly what is causing the reduced speeds.

I would say that you should work with your Deco Mesh setup and see if you can fine-tune their setup; but again, we don’t know the exact model Deco system that you have.

Would also be helpful to know exactly what kind of speeds you are getting from your actual Internet connection, because maybe you are not getting the full “300Mb” that you should be.

Your primary Deco Mesh Gateway unit should have a built-in speedtesting app that will test the speeds from the Gateway out to the Internet; instead of testing the speeds from your client device-through the local Wifi to your Deco Gateway-out to the Internet.
