1 year ago- The link status reports “no valid IP address” for when the PC is connected to the switch (At least that’s what the troubleshoot thingy in windows tells me). When it’s directly connected to the port in the wall, it’s working as expected, no connection issues what-so.ever - So I don’t know what “link status” that would qualify as… The lamps on the switch and the back of the PC are all behaving the same - link is green and the orange data light (at least that’s what I think what that’s for) is on - no matter what is plugged where, all the same.
- IP address reports a 169.***, with subnet mask 255.255.0.0 when connected to the switch and not working. When it’s “working”, then it’s a 172.*** with Netmask 255.255.255.0.
- I don’t know what’s on the other side of the wall - since the appartment complex is fully equipped with everything. I could ask what’s behind the wall, but I don’t know when or if I would get an answer for that. Not sure if the staff here knows what I’m talking about from the few interactions I’ve had with them.
I shall throw the thing away, I did suspect that those things are garbage… I tried anyways since I didn’t have any other ideas at that point. And could you expand on the reason on why I need a router? Should the apartment complex not have a router already somewhere? Everything else works… The notebook, the PS4… just not this new PC.
