Looking to move our ISP-provided modem and router to the wall where our TV’s/consoles sit to hard wire them via a small unmanaged switch. They’re both currently on the opposite wall where the signal comes into the apartment.

Would it be better to move the modem (and router) by running a longer (~30ft) coax cable or better to leave the modem where it is and run a long Ethernet cable for the router/switch?

I saw something about how longer coax cables can introduce more dB loss but I have no idea if that’s an issue or not for a residential modem. For what it’s worth, we don’t have cable TV.

My amateur research also turned out that coax cables are more fragile like when going around corners or getting hit/stepped on. That’s what made me go with a Cat6 ethernet cable.

Not sure if that was the best option or if that’s entirely accurate, but it’s what I chose.
