Hello everyone,
I’m seeking advice on a topic where my knowledge is quite limited. I reside in a rural area and am exploring the possibility of establishing a 5G mobile network at home. Approximately 2 miles from my house, in a direct line, there is an antenna providing a 5G 2100MHz signal. On occasion, my phone picks up a 1-bar 5G signal at my house. I am considering getting an external router or a router equipped with external antennas to attempt a connection to this signal and use it as my home WIFI. This setup is intended for my holiday home to facilitate remote work.
Currently, I have a similar arrangement in my primary residence, but it relies on 4G and 3G signals, resulting in insufficient internet quality for two individuals working remotely on the same network. My specific query is whether a device like the “HUAWEI 5G CPE Win (H312-371),” positioned towards the signal and mounted on the wall, would capture a stronger signal compared to my phone. Alternatively, would it be more effective to locate a 5G router with external antenna ports and connect an external antenna to it?
In the image I’ve marked my house with an “x” and an I’m pointing an arrow to the antenna I’m hoping to use for my network.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide. Any insights will be greatly appreciated!
My first thoughts are a cellphone booster with a old phone acting as a hotspot but one needs to dedicate a sim card to this type of low tech solution. This might be too small for the scale of the project though. Good luck in curious how it turns out.
